Congratulations AAFC GU14 Lady Patriots

I have been coaching 4 goalkeepers (Olivia, Jesse, Karley, and Courtney) now for 3 years. In that time, I have helped coach Ken Reno with the team.

Bringing a team of young soccer players along, season after season, is an immense challenge and coach Reno has done a superb job with his GU14 Lady Patriots.

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of helping/coaching the GU14 Lady Patriots get to the championship game of the Taylor, MI, Thanksgiving Indoor Challenge. They lost 4-2 in the final but the team came away with their heads held high.

Today, The Lady Patriots played an indoor game in Maumee, OH, against a division 1 local high school and win 4-0. Coach Reno should be rightly proud of his 6th, 7th and 8th graders for this performance.

And to my superb goalkeeper, Olivia, what an absolutely awesome display if indoor goalkeeper. I have worked with Olivia now for three years and she enters high school in the fall of '12. There is NOT a better 8th grade goalkeeper in NW Ohio than Olivia. Congratulations Olivia for being the student you are and the terrific goalkeeper you have become.

Welcome Emma Conlee

I would like to welcome Emma Conlee to the family of Goalkeepers Edge keepers. Emma plays for the GU14 Pacesetter Select in Sylvania, Ohio. Emma has developed into one of the very best GU14 goalkeepers in NW Ohio and I am proud that she is one of 'my' goalkeepers.
I would like
Recently, Emma set Goalkeepers Edge records for two catching techniques:

-- Dive Forwards: Emma performed 20 perfect dive forwards
-- High Basket Catches: Emma performed an astonishing 150 consequtive high basket catches.

Contratulations Emma, keep up the great work, I am so proud of you.

____________

Where it all began for Goalkeepers Edge

Three years ago, I got a call from a parent of a freshman high school goalkeeper for a high school called Woodmore. I had never heard of Woodmore, let along know where the village of Elmore was located (home of Woodmore). Cyndi asked me if I would be willing to help her son, Ryan, because he was asked to be the varsity goalkeeper and he needed help. I didn't return Cyndi's call. Cyndi was persistent and called me again and I said 'sure', thinking it was pretty close to home. Well, Woodmore is 20 miles east of where I live.

I travelled down to Woodmore on a June night in 2009 and gave Ryan an hour of my time. Within three practices I had Ryan and 6 - 8 keepers from the Woodmore girls varsity team practicing as well.

That season, I coached Ryan on a regular basis, preparing him for his freshman year as starting goalkeeper.

Ryan is now a junior at Woodmore, I am now the Head Coach of the girls varsity soccer program. I also own my own goalkeeper coaching business called "Goalkeepers Edge'. It all started with Cyndi's phone call three years ago.

Ryan was just named 1st team Northern Buckeye Conference goalkeeper and his boys varsity soccer team won the conference title with a 10-0 record.

Ryan has progressed into one of the top high school goalkeepers, at all levels, at all divisions, in the state of Ohio. He is an accomplished goalkeeper with incredible agility and superb technical ability and competence. His selection as #1 goalkeeper in the NBC is richly deserved.

I have now coached Ryan for three years and I take great pride in guiding Ryan's goalkeeping career all the way to the inevitable college recruitment. His work ethic is superb, his taste for goalkeeper learning is excellent, and his command of the final 1/3 of the field and his leadership as captain of the Woodmore boys varsity team is without equal.

I congratulate Ryan Paul for his progress and I want to say how very proud I am of his accomplishments for one of the smallest schools in NW Ohio.

____________

Congrats to Oregon Crew GU13 for winning the Championship at the Hudson, MI, Tournament

Backed by my two goalkeepers, Olivia and Emily, the GU13 Oregon Crew

___________

Latest clinic: GU10 Essl Arsenal:

Congrats to Jordan, Kourtney, Ali, and Mallory for a terrific keeper's clinic 9/5/11. Also, for 100 consecutive high basket catches among the four young goalkeepers. A high basket catch is defined as successfully using the correct catching technique when the ball is thrown up to 12 yards in the air.... these four 10 year olds performed 100 success high basket catches!

___________

Welcome Taylor McCutcheon

Taylor McCutcheon of Findlay, OH, is the latest young goalkeeper to join my growing family of goalkeepers in NW Ohio. Taylor is the starting goalkeeper for the Findlay Blue U12 Girls. Taylor joined the Goalkeepers Edge family several weeks ago and rapidly progressed through my fundamentals class and now now enters the next phase of her development as a goalkeeper.

In addition, on 9/10/11, Taylor performed 110 successful and consecutive high basket catches, a record as of today. In fact, Taylor performed 159 high basket catches with only one fumble.... a fantastic achievement for a young goalkeeper.

Congrats Taylor and welcome to my family of goalkeepers.

____________

New additions to the Goalkeepers Edge goalkeeping academy: Jenna Kill and Abby Snyder:

As a goalkeepers coach, I concentrate on making sure fundamental techniques are in place before progressing to a different goalkeeping discipline. A trademark of Goalkeepers Edge goalkeepers is the execution of basic and technical sound fundamentals.

To that end, I want to introduce the latest two additions to the Goalkeepers Edge growing number of goalkeepers in NW Ohio.

Jenna Kill and Abby Snyder play for Sylvania United GU12. Both are excellent young goalkeepers who have displayed enormous potential and a toolbox of good and solid goalkeeping fundamentals.

I challenge my goalkeepers to show me their technqiues by asking them to show me repeating technqiues. Today at practice, Jenna and Abby set three Goalkeepers Edge challenge records:

Most consecutive successfully executed high basket catches by two goalkeepers: 60

Most consecutive successfully executed high basket catches by a single goalkeeper: 100 by Abby Snyder

Most consecutive successfully executed side collapse saves, left and right by two goalkeepers: 60

Congrats to Jenna and Abby, the lastest additions to my wonderful group of young goalkeepers in NW Ohio

____________

Congrats to Emma Conlee

My latest high school goalkeepers camp was conducted on Saturday, May 15th for Oak Harbor high school girls junior varsity and varsity goalkeepers. The camp was from 9am to 4pm on a very nice May Saturday in Oak Harbor, Ohio.

The camp concentrated on my 8 goalkeeping principles of catch, control, command, communication, coordination, anticipation, angles, and agility.

Below are photos of the four goalkeepers who went through the camp. I want to thank and contratulate all four goalkeepers (Chelsey, Kelsey, Amber, and Kaitlyn) for a super day. Their attention to my coaching, how they listened to all my advice and adjustments, and their execution of the drills was simply amazing. Coach Goldstein, head coach, is in the envious position of having four super keepers to choose from for her JV and V fall teams.

Contratulations to Kelsey Lacer, Kaitlyn Wahl, Chelsey Kaman, and Amber Moomey.

My name is Malcolm Edge and I live in Perrysburg, Ohio. I'm an experienced goalkeeper with an extensive playing career in both the UK and US.

My coaching experience includes coaching at the high school level in California, and most recently at Woodmore high school in Elmore, Ohio, private goalkeeping coaching, and U-12 team coaching.

My coaching credentials include Ohio Board of Education supervisor permit, Ohio Department of Education Coaches Clinic Pupil Activity Program, AHA Heartsaver AED program, and NSCAA State and Regional goalkeepers coaching diplomas.
